The world’s largest cut emerald is set to go on up for auction today and is predicted to sell for around $1.15million (£731,738.00) at Western Star Auctions in British Columbia.
The emerald cut stone matches the size of a watermelon and weighs 57,500-carats. The large emerald was found in Brazil and named Teodora, after being sent to India to be cut into an emerald shape. However there are doubts as to how much emerald is in the stone if not any and if the stone is in fact the world’s largest emerald cut stone.

Apparently the stone has been dyed to the green emerald stone colour in parts where the stone could be white beryl so it is impossible for a gemmologist to know how much emerald is the stone. GIA (Gemological Institute of America) stated that if the stone has been dyed in parts where it was originally white beryl the stone would be named ‘beryl with zones of emerald.’
So let’s wait to see how much the stone sells at auction for today.
